It is really important to get a nice full shoulder turn into the backswing as this allows the slot to open for the downswing approach back towards impact and helps the golfer get through the ball to the finish. Ben Hogan talked about his "secret" in a 1955 edition exclusive for Sports Illustrated. He specifically mentioned his "secret move" was to cup the left wrist at the top of the backswing. Here I will discuss the advantages of feeling a cupped wrist just as Hogan did.
